Finding Balance In Each Moment

By Andrea Kartika Deierlein

Recently, I’ve been talking a lot with family and friends about balance, and what it means for each person. I used to feel guilty when taking time off. Some people in my life love to travel and spend more time on the move than in their homes. It took me a long time to learn and accept that life is a balancing act… that balance means something different from person to person, situation to situation, even moment to moment… and that it’s ok to live life according to me.

I’m currently back home in Germany for a few weeks. In the time that I’ve been here I’ve experienced the gamut of emotions, sadness about my Papa’s declining health and diminished quality of life, gratitude for him stroking my hair, and the excitement of seeing my favorite artist in concert.

Reiki keeps me sane (I love that the word sane encompasses being mentally sound and healthy in body), so I can show up every day and be a human being with all the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, of life.

Yes, Reiki is something that you can practice on yourself (and for yourself) and learn. But I also want you to know that it’s not a magic cure. It’s a practice that thrives on consistency and commitment. It’s a space where people can just be and meet heart to heart - instead of mind to mind. It doesn’t matter who we are and what we do or what we did or didn’t do. Every moment is a new beginning… in this balancing act of life.
