Just for today

By Andrea Kartika Deierlein

January 18, 2022

Do you feel that when you’re stressed, run down, tired or anxious, everything becomes overwhelming and just too much?

Just for today is a great reminder that nothing lasts forever - and that life is experienced one day at a time.

Just for today is also the beginning of the Reiki precepts, the foundation and heart of Reiki practice.

Just for today is about meeting each moment as it is. One breath. One moment. At. A. Time. Without any interpretation, labels and judgment.

It’s about letting go. Letting go of the expectations, the shoulds, the attempts of fixing, figuring things out, being more productive, efficient, perfect, whatever we feel pressured to do.

How about just for today, we remember that we are human beings and not human doings?

As humans, we are energetic beings. While our bodies are made of flesh and bones, we are also vibrational beings. A life force flows through our veins and cells. Acupuncture refers to this life force as Qi or Chi, Yoga as Prana, and Reiki practice as Ki.

Did you know that thoughts can work like energetic magnets? Feelings can influence thoughts, and vice versa. How we feel and think can also direct and influence our life force and how we experience life, because emotions are energy in motion

Some emotions vibrate at a higher frequency. Others at a lower frequency. We don’t need to be scientists to understand that when we feel happy and joyful, life flows smoother and things feel lighter and easier. Whereas when we feel sad or angry, things feel heavy and stuck.

Maybe when life and everything feels overwhelming, it’s a reminder that you’re doing too much.

Maybe it’s an invitation to simplify. To prioritize first things first.

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” - Hans Hofmann

My new online course, Navigating Uncertainty, is based on the Just for Today concept and how we can navigate the ups and downs of life with resilience, a skill that we will learn, hone and deepen over the course of 5 weeks. Starting on Feb. 22, we will work with a different Reiki precept and explore its meaning in our lives, so we can walk away with easy-to-use tools to strengthen ourselves from the inside.
